Photo: Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer after he pulled over an actual off-duty Capitol Heights police officer Wednesday afternoon in Upper Marlboro.

A Maryland man posing as a police officer was caught red handed when he tried to pull over an actual police officer Wednesday, authorities said.

Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni, 29, of Crofton, allegedly pulled over an off-duty Capitol Heights police officer for speeding at Route 301 and Trade Zone Avenue in North Marlboro, CBSDC reported.

Mastrogiovanni was driving a white pickup truck with blue and red police lights in the windshield, according to the Washington Post.

When the real cop identified himself, the man said he said he was a military officer from Louisiana.

The real officer told him he was out of his jurisdiction and alerted county police.

He also pointed out that having emergency lights in the truck was illegal in Maryland.

The suspect fled the scene but was eventually arrested by Prince George's County police.

He was later released on his own recognizance, police said.
