MILTON -

A Mattapan man on a scooter required stitches after trying to outrun police and crashing into a parked truck.
Cleveland Samuels, 45, was riding a scooter without a helmet at about 11 a.m. Monday when two Milton officers who were working a road detail at Adams and Franklin streets saw him and told him to stop.
Samuels allegedly drove away from Lt. James O'Neil and Officer Robert Mason after they asked him to get off the scooter. He hit a parked truck about 75 feet away and then started throwing punches at the officers when they went to help him, Deputy Police Chief Paul Nolan said.
He was scheduled to be arraigned today in Quincy District Court on two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, failure to stop for a police officer, driving with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and violation of the helmet law.
Samuels was taken to Milton Hospital where he received stitches in one of his knees.
