CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte says officials are investigating circumstances surrounding the discharging of weapons by police who were trying to arrest a man.
Ayotte says early Saturday, state police and law enforcement from Londonderry and Manchester pursued a vehicle driven by 48-year-old John Leipold.
Ayotte says as the police attempted to apprehend Leipold in Manchester, Leipold ignored commands to stop, and fled. She says as Leipold fled, weapons were discharged by officers at the scene.
The police pursued Leipold through Manchester and into Goffstown where he was apprehended.
Ayotte says Leipold was taken to Elliot Hospital where he was treated for a single gunshot wound. Leipold is in critical, but stable condition after surgery.
Ayotte says her office and the state police Major Crime Unit are investigating the shootings per protocol.
