WATERBURY, Conn. -- A jury has convicted a 21-year-old Waterbury man of fatally shooting another man in a city home two years ago.
Prosecutors say Jonathan Albino shot 19-year-old Christian Rivera four times in a stairway, then left Rivera for dead and fled to New York. Police say he returned and surrendered to police a few days later.
Albino testified he fired random shots, fearing for his safety because Rivera would not remove his sweatshirt hood to show his face or take his hands out of his pockets. Police have said the home was a known spot for drug dealing, but they do not know why Rivera was there.
A jury convicted Albino of murder Friday after a six-week trial and four days of deliberations. He faces up to 60 years in prison when he is sentenced in January.
