Westport -
A 23-year-old Westport resident was arrested Thursday night and charged with attempting to kill his 18-year-old girlfriend. Police responded after a neighbor called 911 when she heard the woman screaming.
Marc Salgado, of 82 Beechwood Drive, close to the scene, was also charged with kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness. He was held on $50,000 cash bond and arraigned Friday in Fall River District Court.
Police said the woman told officers her boyfriend was trying to kill her when officers arrived on Robert Street near Family Beach on Sawdy Pond at around 8:20 Thursday night. Salgado, standing nearby, was arrested. The woman said she and Salgado had an argument, that he was driving erratically, and that he choked her and dragged her across the grass toward the beach.
Salgado also tried strangling her while she was on the ground and kicked her, she said. He told her she was going to die and refused to let her use her phone to call for help, according to police. She also told police Salgado said "he would have to kill her because he beat her up." The woman was treated for injuries by the Fire Department.
Salgado was found to have marijuana on him when he was taken to the police station, according to police.
