Fall River -
Police arrested a 29-year-old man for alleged attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend at her Lindsey Street home Tuesday.
Jose Aguilera, address unavailable, is charged with attempted murder, domestic assault and battery, larceny from a building, vandalizing property, threatening to commit a crime and intimidating a witness.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Bernier said Aguilera sent alleged threatening e-mails to the woman. About 1:30 p.m., he went to her home and when she opened her door, he allegedly head-butted and choked her, and pushed her to the floor, Bernier related.
She told police the man then forced his way into the apartment, punched her in the stomach, then jumped on top of her and resumed choking her.
"The attack continued with the victim in and out of consciousness," Bernier said.
He began stealing and damaging household items, and nearly hit her with a metal bowl that he threw at her, she said.
When he left, she ran to a neighbor's house to contact police. While Officer Brian Cabral was at the victim's house, she received an e-mail from the suspect in which he allegedly threatened her if she called police, Bernier said.
Aguilera then contacted police and met them on Lindsey Street where he was arrested.
Bernier said the woman was treated at the scene for head, neck, stomach and rib injuries, as well as cuts, bruises and scratches. She said she would have a neighbor take her to a hospital.
