Fall River -
A man was arrested on cocaine trafficking and illegal firearm charges after police received a complaint of alleged drug dealing in the area of the Evangeline Healy Pool at Kennedy Park.
Wilson M. Saraiva, 21, of 700 Shore Drive, is charged with trafficking a Class B drug (more than 28 grams), unlawful possession of large capacity firearm, feeding device and ammunition, possession of a firearm in a felony, distributing a Class D drug, possession of a Class D drug to distribute, conspiracy to violate the drug laws and drug violation near a park/playground.
Police also arrested Bruno M. Jose, 25, of 478 Third St., on a charge of possession of a Class B drug to distribute.
Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Mauretti said Detectives William Falandys and Bryan Nadeau observed an alleged drug deal between Saraiva, the operator of a Cadillac Escolade, and an unknown male Wednesday in the park area.
Detectives followed Saraiva to 700 Shore Drive, Apartment 803, and found him to have marijuana in his possession.
Nadeau took a call on Saraiva's cellphone from Jose, who allegedly asked for a "quarter" ounce of marijuana. Jose arrived at Saraiva's apartment later.
After securing a search warrant to the apartment, detectives found 350 OxyContin pills packaged for sale and more marijuana, Mauretti said. A loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun was found under a mattress. Nadeau found 14 more OxyContin pills in Jose's possession.
Two other men, David Melo, 33, also of 700 Shore Drive, Apartment 803, and Hector Diaz, 31, of 435 Aetna St., are
being summonsed into District Court. Each is being charged with possession of a Class D drug. Melo also is being charged with possession of a Class B drug and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.
