Fall River -

A 48-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on child abuse charges, involving an eight-year-old boy, police said.
Jeffrey M. Hanoud Sr. of 2039 Pleasant St. is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon by adult on a child under age 14, wanton or reckless endangerment of a child, assault and battery on a child with injury and domestic assault and battery.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Bernier said the state Department of Social Services told police to respond to the Thomas Chew Memorial Boys and Girls Club, where an alternative education program is run by the School Department, regarding an incident that occurred at 2039 Pleasant St.
Alternative school officials observed injuries on the boy, including bruises on his face and around his ears, shoulder blades, chest and back, Bernier said.
DSS, the school nurse and the Police Department's Major Crimes Division were notified and photos were taken of the boy's injuries, Bernier said.
An investigation by police led to Hanoud's arrest at his home.
Bernier said the dangerous weapon allegedly used is a belt.
DSS took custody of the child and arranged for him to be treated by his pediatrician, Bernier said.
