MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - Milford police say a Michigan man was arrested after allegedly driving erratically and nearly hitting a police car, saying Beyonce was waiting to meet him.
Officers say 33-year-old Robert Williams Jr. of Macomb Township, Mich., has been taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Police say he nearly hit a police car early Sunday, asked the officer for directions to Detroit, then drove over a sidewalk and grassy area.
A police spokesman said Williams - who had flowers and teddy bear in the car - also asked if the officers were escorting him to New York City, saying Beyonce agreed to meet him at the George Washington Bridge.
Williams was charged with reckless driving, speeding and other traffic offenses. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 4 in Milford Superior Court.
A police spokesman said Williams never made any threatening remarks about Beyonce, and police did not need to contact the singer.
