Police investigate area near backyard of 31 High street where a man was stabbed.
WILMINGTON - A man was stabbed multiple times after an argument and died yesterday outside a home in a quiet neighborhood here, police and the district attorney's office said.
Authorities said they arrested Joseph DiPrisco, 46, who lived at the address, and charged him with first-degree murder. Corey Welford, spokesman for Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone Jr., said DiPrisco will be arraigned tomorrow in Woburn District Court.
The arrest came quickly after the crime, according to a neighbor who said he saw a man handcuffed and being led away from the home on High Street minutes after an ambulance pulled from the driveway. The victim was rushed to Lahey Clinic Medical Center, where he succumbed to several stab wounds, officials said. His name, age and address were not released last night, pending notification of his family.
State police detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's office, who investigate all homicides in that county, were at the home last night processing the scene. Investigators dug through a large trash container in the back yard of the home and peered under a blood-smeared towel. Blue gloves worn by medics were discarded in the driveway.
Neighbors said the two-family home had been owned by an elderly woman who died earlier this year. They said a caretaker lived in the house, and a young couple, which one neighbor said appeared to be in their early 30s, had moved in a couple of months prior to yesterday's stabbing.
A large sign in the front lawn - which last night was illuminated by flashing red and blue police lights - advertises the home is for sale.
