Police arrested a Framingham man after he allegedly pushed, hit and tried to strangle his pregnant girlfriend as they worked at the Residence Inn on Wednesday.
Eric Rivera, 24, of 16 Coburn St. in Framingham, was arraigned in Framingham District Court yesterday on charges of domestic assault and battery, attempted murder and assault and battery doing bodily harm to a pregnant woman.
Rivera and his 24-year-old girlfriend work together cleaning rooms at the Residence Inn on Staples Drive. According to the police report in the court records, the assault started with an argument.
"(The woman) stated that she and Mr. Rivera got into an argument over an ex-boyfriend," reads the report written by Officer Christopher Eliadi, one of the arresting officers.
During the argument, police said, Rivera pushed the woman down, and as she fell, the back of her head struck a desk. He then hit her with both an open hand and his closed fist, according to the report.
"According to (the woman) Mr. Rivera grabbed her neck with both hands and strangled her," the report read. "There was visible injury to her neck."
The woman got away and told a co-worker who then called police.
According to the woman, Rivera had attacked her several times before. She also told police she is six months pregnant with Rivera's child.
Rivera was held on $20,000 bail. He appeared before Judge Robert V. Greco yesterday and is due back for another hearing on July 21, according to the court file.
