Was barricaded in home 4 hours

Youth league teams were playing baseball at Ross Field in Hyde Park last night when police began knocking on doors on nearby Manion Road.

"They told us to stay in the house, away from the windows, in the basement in case of stray bullets, I guess," said Mira Patel, 23, a criminal justice major at LaSalle College and a member of Save Our Streets, a nonprofit organization working to keep crime down in Boston neighborhoods.
Nearby, a Hyde Park man, 30, had barricaded himself in a house on Manion Road for nearly four hours after he allegedly beat a woman, police said.
Seth Jackson was arrested last night on charges of assault and battery after he surrendered to police at 8:11 p.m., police spokesman David Estrada said.
After police received a call of a domestic incident at 4:37 p.m., a woman and child, who have not been identified by police, emerged from the house, police said.
The woman, who had visible injuries, told police that Jackson beat her up and had a weapon or weapons in the house, according to Estrada.
She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The child, who did not appear to have been injured, accompanied her for an evaluation, police said.
SWAT team members and hostage negotiators who were at the scene contacted members of Jackson's family, who aided in his surrender, Estrada said.
Last night, police were applying for a search warrant to look for possible weapons in the house, and the incident was still under investigation, he said.
