Malloy names Conn. Public Safety chief | WWLP.com

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov.-elect Dan Malloy has named a former Connecticut state trooper who is senior director of security for the National Football League to head the state's Department of Public Safety.

Malloy said Wednesday that former State Police Major Reuben Bradford will make the state police department "sharp and glow."

The 64-year-old Bradford will assume his new duties after the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl early next year. He has worked for the NFL for 15 years and is responsible for ensuring games and venues across the country are safe.

Bradford lives in Glastonbury with his wife and three children.

Bradford, who is black, worked for the state police for 22 years. He says he experienced racial discrimination during his tenure but was able to overcome it.
