Maine Officer Dies From River Rescue Injuries FRYEBURG, Maine -- Fryeburg police officer Nathan M. Desjardins, 20, died Tuesday from injuries sustained when a police boat crashed en route to rescue canoeists in the Saco River last month, Police Chief Josh Potvin announced in a news release Wednesday. Desjardins joined the department three months earlier, and it was his first water rescue, Potvin said. Desjardins had been listed in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after he and a fellow officer, Dale Stout, 51, crashed their patrol boat while responding to help three people whose canoe had overturned May 27.
