MADISON, Conn. (AP) - Madison's police commission chairman says the town is paying for the sins of the past to deal with a scandal in the police department.
The scandal has led to the firing or suspension of 8 police officers and legal fees have topped more than $337,000 in the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The town's finance director says officials had budgeted $134,000 for legal expenses in the last fiscal year.
Two officers were fired after one was accused of meeting with prostitutes and the other accused of threatening other officers. Two more officers were fired, charged with crimes ranging from theft to threatening.
One sergeant was fired after the commission ruled he failed to supervise the midnight shift where many of the problems occurred.
