Teen Held Gun To Brother's Head, Said, 'Safety's Off,' Girlfriend Says

SOUTHBURY, Conn. -- The attorney for a 19-year-old Warren man charged with manslaughter in his older brother's shooting death said the incident was a tragic accident.

Stephen Throckmorton was arraigned Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court, where he was ordered held on a $250,000 bond and placed on suicide watch.

According to court records, Throckmorton's girlfriend told detectives he was waving a pistol Monday at 21-year-old Ronald Throckmorton, then put it to his brother's head and jokingly said, "Safety's off."

Ronald Throckmorton was killed when the gun discharged.
Stephen Throckmorton fled the scene and was caught early Tuesday in Warren after a 20-hour manhunt. He returns to court Dec. 3.
