no disrespect or intent to create arguments intended: it just seems that alot of part time, specials, campus and auxillary officers frequent this forum. Out of pure curiosity, i would like all that read this thread to honestly identify their status. be proud of your position and be honest. I wonder if Gil would create an additional thread if an abundance of non full time municipal officers are present.. please simply state your screen name and employment status - thanks :?:

Re: just curious- how many of you are full time municipal po

What are you looking for? A forum dedicated to part time, aux, reserve etc...? I am always open to suggestion just give me a better idea of what you are looking for. There is always room for more discussion areas and if warranted a spin off site or sub domain with it's own message board i.e. auxiliaries.masscops.com etc...

BTW: FT municipal officer, but when I first created MassCops I was an auxiliary officer and a dispatcher, never ashamed of either position. They are both great stepping stones.

Re: just curious- how many of you are full time municipal po

Gil, I started off as a civil service P.I. too. before that i worked as a state DOC officer and before that as a state campus police officer - currently i am a full time police officer in a community of about 60,000 people that is rapidly growing. i respect specials, c.o's, campus officers etc - i am just curious and feel that a forum for part time officers would be interesting. You do an outstanding job on this site and we all appreciate you. I am just curious to know who does what and am interested to read how a part time officer thinks now and to see how that may change in the future when he becomes full time - i may add that i am curious about the size/population of their jurisdiction. - i'm just curious by nature. zero disrespect or maliciousness meant -thank you to those who respond, this can generate discussion and commanality. i doubt that i'm the only one that wonders who we chat with here

Where I work, they should pay me double. I am also a full-time slacker.

Re: just curious- how many of you are full time municipal po

Full-time Officer (Municipal); Town population is approx. 15,000 in Central MA. Several major highways run through the town, mostly residential and light industrial with fast growing commercial areas. Started as a part-time dispatcher for a neighboring department (2 mos), then a full-time dispatcher/special officer (3 yrs). During that time period I also worked as a part-time dispatcher for my current department (1 yr) prior to being hired full-time. Full-time Police Officer for two years as of January. Five years total (and counting) in the wonderful law enforcement profession.

I greatly value the experience and learning before I got on full-time, learned from some excellant officers who all started as p/t officers, worked their way up, and were willing to share their experiences and teach the new members of the department who were just starting. Hope that helps.

Re: just curious- how many of you are full time municipal po

i am not a police officer p/t or f/t, i am not a special, reserve or aux, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

It's kinda wierd cause I have 508 days left in the military and I know that I am getting out and I know that law enforcement is the only thing i have wanted to do since i watched my dad grad the academy when i was 6. So i sit here and feel like I am kinda wasting my time. and I wanna start my life and career.

I'm a CO for the DOC and was a full time municipal cop prior. I'm a lazy bastard and didn't like working overtime to make ends meet. Now I work 4 days a week ( I call in sick once a week) and make $60,000. NO MORE OVERTIME!!!

I am a civil service P/I for a small but rapidly growing southeastern MA town of about 16,000. I am on the list waiting to be hired full-time and being a P/I is a great stepping stone. Responsibilities are the same as a full-time officer, only I work on an as needed baisis (average 6 patrol shifts per month, mostly midnights, plus details). It was an excellent opportunity to confirm my decision for a career choice.
