Now I have a question for you guys. In NY police, fire and medics=Red lights, Volunteers = Blue. Our Fleet manager accidently bought the wrong lightbars. Now all of our new cars have all red in the front. But a large majority of the cars still have blue in the back. Not full blue but blue on the right hand side
(Red)(Yellow)(Red)(Red)(Yellow)(Blue)
Could not find a pic so thats the best i could do. and we have been getting complaints from volunteers in our area saying they want the blue off of our cars and are threatining action against us. Now we have our own dept so we dont have volunteers in our city and our cars dont leave the city. So i dont know what the hell they have a problem for. If any thing we should be upset because blue in NY does not mean you have to pull over. Its just a courtesy light. So it could be a problem for us. WE have about 30 cars like that and the dealer is not taking them back (the lightbars) because we altered them .I work traffic so when on the highways on the edge of town i sometimes see people with full blue light bars on the car even though the law says ONE and only one light if your chief gives you a blue light card . I also sometimes see them going through stop signs and lights with the blue lights on. I normally let it ride if i turn the radio to the county wide fire frequency and hear about a fire nearby- Sometimes even escort them as far as i can to ensure they get there safely (would not want them crashing on the way to my burning house). Would I be wrong to start pulling them over for speeding, going through the lights and stop signs even if they are responding? I normally would not do it (morals) but they took the light issue to far with the threats. And Would i be wrong for having the vehicle towed for the lightbar violation or if they dont have a blue light card ? Not in the mater of Traffic laws but morals. We tend to look out for each other but that really pissed us off. Just want to know how fellow cops would treat the situation.

Let me be more specific. They are volunteer firefighters. And what im really asking is would I be wrong to start taking action against (Lightbar And Traffic Violations) them since they are threatining to report us to whoever you report that stuff to. And standard color for PD is red. The Yellow activate as turn signals(not strobe). Dont know how they wired it- First time i ever seen it done that way. And Mpd61. Those arent our normal bars so we dont know what the hell is with the colors. Our normals are all red with take downs in the front and a traffic control in the back

Personnally I wouldn't do anything. Why sink to their level be professional and above it all. Most likely they don't know the full situation in as much detail as you've given us.
Why start a war over talk. Like you said they can't do anything about it and if their really that upset wind them up by letting them think it was intentional because studies show that blue light is visible from the furthest distance away and you guys put them on the rear for safety purposes.
I'm not familiar with NY MV Code but most that I'm familiar with, restrict the colors as displayed to the front not to the rear anyway.
