Job Description
Cornell University is seeking patrol officers responsible for the safety and security of all University faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Cornell University patrol officers are peace officers under New York State law and patrol University property and adjacent roads to prevent crime and enforce state statutes and University rules. Officers are responsible for assignment within a defined area during their official tour in order to efficiently prevent crimes and provide essential community services.

Cornell University patrol officers are service oriented, promoting the concept of the community as our customer and the employee as the provider, creating client centered service that is effective, efficient, and accountable.
Hazardous working conditions may include the potential of bodily harm in criminal investigations and other fire and public safety conditions. Emergency response is an integral part of this position; response to exigent circumstances during off duty hours is required. Must work weekends and evenings. Will work outside in adverse weather conditions. Due to the nature of law enforcement work, overtime may be required. Punctuality is required. This position is a bargaining unit position.
Requirements
Associates degree or equivalent of education/experience in law enforcement or related field. Completion of NYS Basic Police Academy preferred. Must satisfactorily complete probationary period and physical/psychological exams. Must obtain/maintain and satisfactorily complete all training requirements as designated by the Director and laws of NYS. Must possess and maintain valid NYS drivers license, NYS pistol permit and be eligible to obtain/maintain NYSPIN certification. Strong interpersonal written/verbal communication skills necessary. Must possess basic computer skills. High level of concentration requiring acute hand/eye coordination. Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs. in an emergency situation.
