BOSTON (CBS) - A Massachusetts State Police task force that hunts down hot wheels, like a pricey Bentley that was stolen thousands of miles away and recovered on Friday, may soon be history, the I-Team has learned.
The Governor's Auto Theft Task Force has been in existence for almost 30 years.
They are 20 highly trained state troopers. If your car gets stolen, chances are these are the people who track it down. Each year they are responsible for breaking up auto theft rings and closing down chop shops. Soon, it appears they will out of business.

I heard about this last night and found out that atleast one of the regional police units is going to explore starting their own task force. My question is why disband the GATF in the first place? Budget cuts and cutbacks ok I get it....how about a scaled back team until things get better? Or what about our "partners" in the community kicking in some money and/or resources? Oh that's right...they're only "partners" when it helps them. Lock your car doors everyone....car thieves just got the green light to steal.

He makes it sound like those very troopers will be going to the Pike or Logan. It's just a shell game for payroll. I thought the insurance companies paid in full for this unit, or maybe it got subsidized and split with the state.

The diversion unit is out of business as well.
I'm sure Deville will also be stealing thousands from the boss's check again this year since he got away with it last year.
Rest assured that there will be no cutbacks to welfare and SSDI. Unashamed thieves will have all day to laze about, spawn, steal cars and deal drugs for supplemental income.

Lock your wallets too! One way or another, that will be a green light for the insurance companies to stand together and increase everyone's bill because the risk for car theft increases astronomically with zilch for directed enforcement. An early Christmas present for the organized rings who will be operating virtually untouched once the unit goes bye bye.

It SHOULD be funded by the insurance companies. Since insurance is compulsory in MA, they have the biggest stake in recovering their interests.

Unless I missed something (entirely possible)
they are the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force (GATSF) not the "GATTF".

Unfortunately, after Jan. 1st they may have a new acronym:
:
Gone Away Too Soon Fugaciously.:(

Or this, aimed at those who wish to disband the unit:

Giving Away The Store... Fuhginas

Pretty soon, people who work will be required to leave their doors unlocked so the shitbags can come in and take whatever they like of yours. This would be extended to your car. WTF they're already in your wallet!
I'm VERY close to the breaking point...anyone else??? I know some of our (BPD) guys who work with the MSP there-too bad- another win for the POS without firing a shot. They'll probably celebrate with a stolen car parade past the State House.
BTW anyone hear the State raids the pension system to fund entitlement programs? Trying to nail this one down.
Cut welfare and other entitlements BEFORE you take more away from the people holding up this matchstick tower.
I don't give a rat's ass about the libtards, they get what they deserve, but I'll be damned if I'm going down with the ship...
