Oh DEMOCRACY!!!!!!

Initial reports show as much as >70% of eligible voters have turned out in Iraq to vote. I am pleasantly surprised the media is presenting the Iraqi public as "jubilant" and celebratory. Looks like the Iraqi people can actually stand up and do things for themselves.
:wink:
BTW............
Is John Kerry one of the names on the ballot?
:wl:

Greetings to all from Baghdad where it's 2030 hrs. after a historic day!

Let my give two examples of what these people will go through to exercise the right to vote;

A crowd of 500 lined up before the polls opened after their town was hit by 18 mortar rounds! In a Baghdad neigheborhood a suicide bomber detonated (only killed himself) 5 wounded, 3 of them got up, voted then got treatment for their wounds!

And we (the US) could only turn out 49 % to vote??? God damm do we take stuff for granted!!

Like President Bush said many times. If you offer freedom, people will flock to it. Freedom is not Americas gift to the world, it God gift to mankind.

Or as Howard Hughes said.
If you build it, they will come.

There's no word yet on whether Barbara Boxer and John Conyers are going to protest the vote because of long lines in some "minority" neighborhoods or not! 8)

Look at Iraq's ballot. The Iraqi people actually had several candidates to choose from on voting day. Now, look at the U.S. We have two candidates from the two major parties, but honestly when you strip away all the talk radio and media television spin, there is not a dime's worth of difference between the two. Perhaps if we had better candidates and more choices, people would turn out to vote in larger numbers.
