WORCESTER, Mass. -- A man awaiting trial on burglary charges in the Worcester county jail has been found guilty of killing his cellmate during a fight over a pack of playing cards.
Dennis Hadley was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on Thursday for kicking 42-year-old Daniel McMullen to death in February 2005. McMullen died at a hospital of complications from a ruptured spleen.
The 52-year-old Hadley was acquitted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors called the fight an "unprovoked attack."
Hadley claimed he only pushed his cellmate, who was serving time for violating his probation from a drunken driving conviction.
Defense lawyers said evidence in the case circumstantial.
Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday. Hadley faces a maximum of 20 years.
