INDIANAPOLIS --

An Indianapolis police officer was injured early Monday morning in a chase on the city's east side.
The officer, who was not immediately identified, was apparently hit by a car. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.
The chase ended near 33rd Street and Gladstone Avenue shortly after 4 a.m., police said.
Officers were looking for a stolen car that had been seen in the area. One officer found in the car in the 3400 block of Wallace Avenue and shots were fired when the officer approached the vehicle, police and neighbors said.
The driver took off after shots were fired and the car was then found in the 3300 block of Drexel Avenue.
Officers found a woman in the car. She was taken into custody for questioning.
The male driver was not found. The woman told police that he had been shot, but police were not sure if that was true.
A perimeter was set up in the area as police tried to find the man.
