Should we go back to members only for the board?

I'm scared of alot of the newbies on the board here and the guests. I have this feeling that we are turning into a breeding farm for Impersonators. I think we should go to members only and make sure they are PO's or Aux or FF and EMT and not kids that are asking about lights and sirens. Just my :2c:

I don't see the big deal, plus everyone enjoys flaming them.. Most of the forums sections are members only.
But there has been a lot of the same "lights and siren on my Civic" type questions being asked as of late. The staff could make a sticky about the laws and regs in MA about non oem mods to vehicles. When ever one of theses "N00bs" asks about it, we point him/her to the sticky thread...

well the "i'm being targeted by police because of civic" threads are getting old. but if u require a badge to be on this site u will screw a few of us that are not police but enjoy this site and have valid contributions. I shouldn't be punished or barred from this site because i haven't gotten off active duty yet. I agree that there is alot of trash and "how can i get outta my 85 in a 55 ticket because the sun was in my eyes and it wasn't my fault."but I use this site to keep up with things back home and to learn from all of your experiances. but i guess if thats what would be decided than i will have to live with it but There are some considerations!

This has been discussed before and most agreed that what we have now is a nice mix with a few nuts thrown in. Nothing is going to change as far as membership. I might do what Zuke suggested with the bs posts about lights etc...

1. I don't want to collect any info on members as Dunny has mentioned.
2. I don't have the time to verify memberships.
3. If I did verify memberships with PD's how many members do you think we would have.

I know that I don't want some website calling my dept. verifying my employment status.

The best way to avoid the nuts is not to reply to them, maybe I will modify the FAQ stating that posts regarding lights etc.. will be deleted.

I'm not a sworn officer but I work my ass off applying for FT LE jobs around New England, and am most likley getting hired by VSP. I find this message board very informational so I don't think banning people like me from here is the answer.

SAPD - While I understand your concern on this issue, there are many members of this board that would be very upset if they were no longer allowed to be members based on your suggestion.

Yes, people ask stupid questions in forums they probably shouldn't. There is a reason there is an "Ask-a-cop" forum and it works well. That is where the issues you mentioned should be listed, but some people don't realize that.

But if all non-LE personal were kicked off this board could/would get boring. You'd miss a lot of the "other" side of controversies etc.

I'd be kicked off. I'm not an officer yet, but I am working towards that goal. This forum is a great place for myself and others, who are pursuing LE, to get information and to understand topics from your point of view.

I'll leave it at that, but I think it would hurt and discourage a few people who are trying to get into LE and who are not ruining it and making this board "a breeding farm for Impersonators" or "kids that are asking about lights and sirens".

That is my :2c:

Ban the non cops?
But where else could I ask if wireing my right taillight to my scanner is a bad idea or how I can acquire a 1973 bondo buggy and turn it 04' CV?

But seriously, I enjoy this site and do appreciate the work it must take to maintain it as is, never mind doing backround investigations.

Although if you think these lights and siren people are bad, you should take a look at this. There is this INSANE lady that goes on firehouse.com and pretends to be a fire chief and just whines about the "welfare a********" dont support her and she just went into sometown and opended a fire department that is privately owned. Her appartus is like from the 50's and it later came out she is just some nutcase that shows up to calls in her turnouts anda fire truck. Then she came on the site pretending to be the Arizona state fire marshall. Check out the site, it is really funny. I can honestly say flameing this lady is as much fun as I could have with my pants on. :D There are even a few of my quotes on there, under my stm name and my old dfdex name.

It would be nearly impossible to ensure that every person that posts on this board is some form of law enforcement, fire fighter or EMT, and I don't think that's really fair to those who are trying to get into those positions. Masscops used to be pretty much members only that could post, and I don't really see a problem with that as SAPD suggested. It might be a detererrent for someone to have to register who only wants to ask one retarded question that everyone is going to go off on anyway. I know I've ventured onto websites and when I realized I had to register I changed my mind... but more because I just didn't want to give out any personal info, or my e-mail address, etc.

The Guests can be annoying little bugs at times though. I am flabbergasted by some of the questions they ask and I abhor the people who's only intent is to bitch about cops.

Unfortunately, that is what the COPWATCH website is for. Those people are unbelievable. I don't understand how people can hate the men/women who have sworn to protect them. It is not an officer's fault if someone disobeys the law. Sorry...I digress.

But, Dunny is right. Guests for the most part won't waste their time to register, that is what the Ask-A-Cop forum is for. Those who have one or two (albeit sometimes stupid) questions.

I think overall the amount of whackers posting ridiculous topics on the forums are fewer than what it appears. Yeah, you see the occasional "light bar", "modified exhaust", "radar detector" and the dreadful..."I got a speeding ticket..." posts. Most I have seen under the "Ask-a-Cop" forum and the responses to these posts by LE and Non-LE, members of the board, seem to send a quick message and a dose of reality to get their head out their a**. Also, they do provide for some good comic relief you have to admit it... :L: Its also educational for those people on the board who want to "take the test" and pursue a career in law enforcement. If they are nieve to what they are in for they can see what type of morons they are going to be dealing with.

Out of the many forums and extensive topics on the website, there is a benefit to having points of view/perspectives of someone trying to get on the job or individuals in other professions with an interest in posting their comments. It provides for a valuable discussion in most cases. The odd topics/questions are bound to pop up under the ask-a-cop section, that is obvious, but I don't see that a knee jerk reaction restricting the site to LE only would be a good idea because of a few lightbar or speeding ticket questions. Just my two cents :2c:

He doesn't want to do anything like that anyway. The less information he has on a member the better in case of fruitcakes filing complaints.
Oh, PLEASE. You are so paranoid. When would that ever happen??

I also enjoy the "I have a giant exhaust the size of a sewer pipe. Why are the cops harrassing me?" posts.

What is life without a little fun??

I kinda worded what I said wrong I understand there are alot of valid people trying to get information about getting on the job. I'm not saying kick everyone off the board and make it an elitist club. I'm saying kick these kids that you can clearly tell are the kind of peoplle that are going to be caught Impersonating a PO. I won't name names but we all know who they are on here. When i wanted to join the LE only part of the forum on here before I had to e-mail Gil a copy of my ID and badge. I had no problem doing that. This site is a great site and when i joined it and noticed i was member # 589 I thought to myself wow this site is pretty big and since then the membership has doubled even trippled. That's good I'm glad and alot of us get great and give great information on here. BUt these whackers have to go. It's just my :2c: and nothing against Gil or any of the moderators I just think that we are helping these whackers along.

Ok fair enough, I just want it to be known that there are some very valid people on this board that are not in LE but truly want to be. Thank you.
