A 25-year-old Holbrook man was charged after he allegedly stole items from a medical cart while wandering the halls at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital early Saturday morning, police said.
Mark S. Sullivan, 25, of 16 South Franklin St., Holbrook, was charged with malicious damage to real property over $250, larceny from the building over $250, and disturbing the peace.
Officers responded to the hospital at 680 Centre St. at 3:26 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports that a man was breaking into a "code cart" and stealing items from the hospital.
A code cart contains emergency medical supplies, such as suction equipment, bandages and tongue depressors, that are used to help revive someone during a patient crisis.
Hospital staff told officers that an estimated $3,000 worth of materials were taken from the code cart, police said.
Police would not specify exactly what items were stolen from the cart.
Sullivan was allegedly walking around medical floors and bothering patients in their rooms, police said.
He was seen with a bag full of items by a nurse and then he proceeded to walk out of the hospital, police said.
After officers put out a radio alert with Sullivan's description, an Abington officer apprehended Sullivan on the Abington-Brockton line, police said.
Future charges may be pending against Sullivan, police said.
The incident remains under investigation.
Sullivan was scheduled to be arraigned today in Brockton District Court.
