GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There's an air of concern in Greenfield as a woman who allegedly threatened the lives of public officials, was able to post bail Monday morning.
A search warrant uncovered a revolver and a "hit list" allegedly made by 53-year old Debra Baggett. The woman had reportedly made death threats to the Department of Social Services officials, Judges and police officers in the wake of her child being put into state custody.
Both the Greenfield police and DSS say they are at a heightened state of awareness after Baggett moved to town upon her release.
Baggett was arraigned in Northampton several weeks ago and was behind bars after a judge originally deemed her a danger to society.
She has since been outfitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet, but still, Greenfield police wishes she wasn't able to reside where she allegedly threatened some lives.
Several years ago, Baggett was found not guilty, by reason of insanity, to the shooting of her husband while living down south.

Hi, Thanks for the warm welcome to Greenfield.

Silly cops! Don't you know that you can't trust what you read in the papers? ...and for that matter - you can't trust what you read in the police reports either!

So I think its a FREE country and I am allowed to live where ever I choose.

Does anything about "innocent until proven guilty" ring a bell?

So if your child had been taken by DSS and was placed in a foster home where DSS was aware that there had been at least three prior reports of abuse - and then removed him because they supported an abuse of Sexual Abuse against another child in the home - Don't you think a mother might have the right to hate those folks?

So....write what you will - I find it amusing !

I have "Free Speech" to write anything I want in the privacy of my home - which is exactly what I did. Wrote a list! I didn't publish it, call the people and tell them that I wanted to kill them, or otherwise let them know what my feelings were. THE HARM came when the police contacted those people and told them -

So if those folks live in fear - far be it from me! I wrote what I felt at the moment, I had the right to do so and it is NOT against the law.

First off Mrs. Maggit, the same " freedom of speech " crap you just spouted out gives us and anyone else the right to make an opinion and write it if we like. If I were you I would concentrate on collecting the little marbles you lost and putting them back inside your head...you should propably spend alot less time online posting your foolishness and a little more at your therapists.
p.s Thank you for letting me excercise my " free speech " I feel better.

I hate when people abuse Sexual Abuse. Everything in moderation, that's my motto!

Incidently, isn't a "baggett" a loaf of bread? Given the current circumstances, effective immediately there shall be no "pinching of the loaf" at masscops...this is your only warning.:pinch:

Judge denies bail to Northampton woman who threatened state, court workers

NORTHAMPTON - Ticking off a list of evidence presented during a long and contentious dangerousness hearing, Judge Bertha D. Josephson Wednesday ordered that Debra Baggett be held without bail until she is tried on charges that she threatened Department of Social Services and court workers.

The hearing had been scheduled to determine whether or not there are any terms under which Baggett could be released before trial that would ensure the public safety.

Baggett, 53, was arrested on Dec. 7. Police executing a search warrant at her Florence apartment said they found a loaded gun there along with a list titled "People I want to kill."

In ruling that Baggett was too dangerous to release, Josephson recited some of the other evidence presented by the prosecution: that Baggett threatened to kill Judge Lillian Miranda; that she planned to take her 7-year-old autistic son at gunpoint from Providence Hospital, where he is being treated; that she marked bullets with the names of people she intended to kill; that she told Judge Judd J. Carhart in a prior court session, "I'll kill you too."

Defense lawyer Lee D. Flournoy argued that much of the evidence was either unsubstantiated or overblown, portraying Baggett as a poor single mother who is trying to retrieve her son from state custody.

"There is no evidence to say that this is a dangerous woman," she told Josephson, "that this is a killer."

Baggett has been engaged in a heated custody fight over her son since he was taken from her in 2006 by the Department of Social Services.

The boy told police that Baggett had duct-taped him to a chair and threatened him with a knife. Most of the criminal charges against Baggett in that incident were eventually dropped.

Baggett crossed swords with the Department of Social Services during the ensuing custody battle. According to testimony at her hearing, she looked up the home addresses of some social workers on the Internet.

After one social worker reported that Baggett had threatened to kill Miranda during a court proceeding, police obtained a warrant to search her apartment.

Baggett's daughter, Heather Baggett, 18, testified Wednesday that her mother told her she planned to free her son from Providence Hospital at gunpoint, if necessary. Her mother also told her she was writing the names of people she wanted to kill on bullets, Baggett said.

Flournoy tried to portray the testimony by Heather Baggett and her husband, Jeremy Smith, as part of an ongoing battle with Debra Baggett over other matters. Smith, 29, said he followed Heather to Northampton from Alabama soon after she moved here in 2007, then married her out of state.

Flournoy questioned Smith about a dispute he had with Debra Baggett after he was charged with shoplifting at the Big Y Supermarket last November. Smith denied that was the reason he approached the police with evidence that Baggett had a gun.

"If you know somebody's going to kill somebody, what would you do?" he asked.

Josephson ordered that Baggett's trial take place within 90 days and scheduled a pretrial conference for Dec. 4.
