RECRUITMENT OPEN TO: All qualified persons.

RECRUITING FOR: Multiple, full-time vacancies located at the Department of Public Safety, Nevada Highway Patrol Division, Statewide, Nevada. In order to receive consideration, applicants must indicate their availability to work in all geographic locations assigned and to accept the conditions of employment indicated.

Qualified applicants will be accepted on a "first come, first served" basis. Hiring may occur before the announcement is closed. Closure notice of one week or more will be posted on the weekly alphabetical listing of job announcements.

THE POSITION: Highway Patrol Troopers perform law enforcement duties involving enforcement of all federal, State and local laws and regulations on the public highways and on all property to which the general public has access; investigate traffic accidents which result in personal injury, property damage or death occurring within the Highway Patrol's jurisdiction or outside of the Highway Patrol's jurisdiction, upon request of an in-state law enforcement agency; investigate and interdict interstate and intrastate controlled substances violations and other criminal violations; prepare various reports using Division guidelines and prescribed format; enforce traffic and criminal laws; initiate traffic stops on vehicles and pedestrians; perform court/warrant services; testify in various courts; inspect commercial vehicle drivers and their equipment for mechanical and operational safety and appropriate driver documentation; perform emission control duties to enforce statutes and regulations; render assistance to injured, stranded or lost motorists and pedestrians.

TO QUALIFY: The minimum qualifications for this position require graduation as Category I Peace Officer from a Nevada P.O.S.T. approved law enforcement academy.
SPECIAL NOTES AND REQUIREMENTS: 1) As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances; 2) Applicants for these classes must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Administrative Code; 3) At the time of appointment the applicant must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license.

THE EXAMINATION: The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.

NOTE: After successful completion of the examination, as part of the selection process, the Department of Public Safety will conduct: 1) Extensive background investigations; 2) Psychological and polygraph examinations; 3) Require a physical examination, the cost of which is borne by the applicant; and 4) An oral interview.
