    On the belt, gun side. Like I have said before, being the only guy in a suit in the BX helps a lot.

    I have read other studies (but unfortunately do not have a link to share) that say that the badge displayed at chest level, such as by a chain, instead of at the belt reduces blue on blue incidents significantly.
    If I were frequently in plainclothes on the street, I would use the neck chain.
    I understand the comments about getting involved off duty, but there are plenty of plainclothes cops on duty.

    The Kansas City study is above, and many others have shown the same. Badge by the gun is great for accidental gun exposure.....but for friendly ID center mass (chain) has been proven to be MUCH more effective many times over.
