Police Calling Case Disturbing

RANGELY, Maine -- An investigation is continuing into a hate crime after offensive graffiti was found painted on a Jewish man's housing development in Rangeley.

Hermie Glick, owner of the Round Pond Maine development, reported last week that someone painted a swastika, a "KKK" and the phrases "wight power" and "wite power" -- with the word white misspelled -- on a sign and a trailer parked on his property.

Police Chief Phil Weymouth called the incident a hate crime, meaning it was motivated by a bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.

Glick said the incident was disturbing, but is not indicative of the Rangeley population as a whole.
