HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford officials are extending the emergency curfew that was imposed on teenagers last month, citing a dramatic drop in gun violence.
Mayor Eddie Perez says the youth curfew imposed Aug. 14 is being renewed for another 30 days because he believes it works.
Police Chief Daryl Roberts says there has been a significant drop in gun violence from Aug. 2 to Aug. 30, including a 54% decrease in the number of people shot in the city.
Roberts say that only one teenager was involved in a shooting during the curfew.
The curfew bans anyone under 18 from loitering on the streets after 9 p.m., unless they are with a parent or guardian.
