Handcuffed fugitive who escaped from Alaska trooper's car drowns
The Associated Press
ANCHORAGE, Alaska- A man who kicked out a window to escape from a state trooper's patrol car was found dead in a lake less than a mile away.
The body of Nicholas A. Hill, 20, was discovered Sunday at Nancy Lake, his hands still cuffed behind his back, said Trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson.
Hill flagged down a trooper late Tuesday after he had car problems. The trooper arrested him after he ran his ID and discovered Hill was wanted for allegedly missing a court date on an underage drinking charge.
The officer later stopped at an accident scene. When he returned he found that Hill had kicked out a window from the back seat and wriggled out.
Troopers said they had not determined if Hill intentionally or accidentally entered the lake. An autopsy was planned
