Gun enthusiasts are rallying opposition to a string of new federal proposals that could close off hundreds of thousands of acres in the open West to target shooting.
The proposals from the Bureau of Land Management potentially would outlaw target shooting in swaths of public land in Arizona and Colorado as part of a broader conservation planning effort.
Federal officials said shooters are, under the proposals, being herded to different areas because of safety concerns and because -- at least in Arizona -- they've been leaving trash in public parks and damaging the environment with their bullets.

Set up designated pieces of land for the shooters, and provide them with some amenities (i.e trash cans, bathroom hut etc) and call it good. I understand part of this but there is a solution that works for all parties.

Unfortunately, a lot of the shooters that go out into the BLM and National Forest land are not responsible. If you put a trash can anywhere, I guarantee you some dumbass would use it as a target. I regularly see targets stapled or nailed to live trees and the trees get all shot up because some retard is too stupid to buy or make a target stand.

It's really bad in a lot of places out here...while there are a lot of good responsible shooters, there are always the retards that ruin it for everyone else. You'll find all sorts of goofy shit on the federal land.

The Obama administration said Wednesday it will not impose new restrictions on recreational shooting on public lands, a Thanksgiving gift for thousands of gun owners and hunters concerned about a draft plan to limit target shooting near residential areas.
The policy, proposed this summer, could have closed millions of acres of federal land to gun use, a prospect that caused alarm among gun owners, particularly in the West, where target shooting on public land is a longtime tradition. Hunting season for deer and other game begins around Thanksgiving in many states.

gun control has proven to be the "3rd rail" of politics for the lefties.

osama will back off getting closer to election time and if reelected hammer gun owners for another 4 years.
