A police officer shot a robbery suspect Monday night at a Norcross apartment complex, Gwinnett County police said.
Gwinnett police Cpl. Illana Spellman said officers responded shortly before 10:30 p.m. to a call of an armed robbery at the Mission Heritage apartments on Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
When the officers arrived, two male suspects were leaving the apartment," Spellman said.
She said one armed man "was given verbal commands … to drop his weapon."
"The suspect made an aggressive movement toward his weapon and the officer shot the suspect," Spellman said.
The suspects had forced entry into an apartment and struck a male victim with a handgun, Spellman said. She said the victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to recover.
The suspect shot by the officer was hospitalized in critical condition, Spellman said. The second suspecct was taken into custody without incident.
The officer was placed on routine administrative leave, Spellman said. The names of those involved were not released.
