WAREHAM - A former town resident was arraigned in Brockton Superior Court on charges stemming from allegations he sexually abused at least four young relatives more than 30 years ago.
Robert White, 54, of Derry, N.H., pleaded not guilty on Oct. 30 to 17 counts of charges that included rape of a child with force, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and threats to commit a crime.
Mr. White was released on $10,000 cash bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victims and to have no contact with children under 16. He will return to court Dec. 4.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Mr. White in July. He was arrested in New Hampshire, and arraigned in Wareham District Court on three counts of rape of a child with force.
According to court records, a victim came forward to Wareham police in February, telling officers that Mr. White, a relative, sexually abused her over the course of several years during the 1970s, beginning when she was 8.
The woman claimed she had recently remembered the alleged assaults, which reportedly occurred while the defendant still lived in Wareham, court records said.
Three other relatives also told police Mr. White sexually assaulted them several times during the 1970s, court records said.
