BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts prosecutors are accusing a former contestant on NBC's "The Biggest Loser" of trying to scam insurance companies by taking out policies on jewelry he had already reported stolen, and giving a false address for his auto policies.
Forty-3-year-old David Fioravanti of Boston was indicted Tuesday on charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud, insurance fraud, larceny over $250, attempted larceny over $250 and making a false statement on a motor vehicle registration. He'll be arraigned Nov. 4.
The state attorney general's office alleges Fioravanti collected $63,000 in insurance on jewelry he reported stolen in 2003, then took out policies with two different companies to insure the same jewelry, which had never been reported recovered. He allegedly gave his auto insurer his mother's address to qualify for lower premiums.
Calls to Fioravanti and his attorney were not immediately returned Tuesday.
