Prosecutors Say Prison Database Broken Into

BOSTON -- A former Plymouth County inmate is accused of hacking into the prison's computer network and stealing personal information including Social Security numbers for hundreds of prison workers.

Federal and county authorities announced the indictment of Francis Janosko, 42, on Thursday. He was arrested Wednesday in North Carolina on charges of intentionally damaging a protected computer and aggravated identity theft.

Prosecutors say Janosko broke into a prison database on a computer inmates were allowed to use for legal research.
Between October 2006 and February 2007 he allegedly set up access for himself and other inmates to records for more than a thousand current and former prison employees.

He was caught when he allegedly tried to log into a prison management program.

There was no answer Thursday at a telephone listing for Janosko. It's not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
