SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
A former Sacramento police officer is facing prison time after being convicted of grand theft.
A jury found Sean Julian Lewis guilty on Thursday and the judge ordered him held without bail.
While working as a Sacramento police officer, Lewis was given $50,000 in cash last January by someone who asked him to hold it in trust. Lewis later misappropriated nearly half of the money without the victim's knowledge or permission.
Lewis was arrested in April and resigned after 8 years with the police department.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 12. Lewis could get between 16 months and three years in prison.
