MANCHESTER - An almost 3-hour foot chase through the woods in Manchester ended with the arrest of a local man yesterday by officers from the Manchester, Essex, and Massachusetts State Police departments.
At 1:10 yesterday afternoon, Manchester police served a warrant of apprehension issued by Salem District Court to 22-year-old Russell Barrie of 49 Union St. Barrie then escaped either through a back door or window from the house, according to police reports. When police checked the immediate area, they were unable to find Barrie.

Manchester police then called in two state police canine units and a helicopter.

Local residents called police and said they saw Barrie on Elm Street. A foot chase began that covered areas off Pine Street and reportedly Pleasant Street.

The canine unit tracked him to Rockwood Heights Road, where he was taken into custody shortly before 4 p.m.
