ORLANDO, Fla. --
Two Orange County sheriff's deputies are being called heroes after fighting off dogs to save a woman trapped in a house fire that killed her husband.
Officers responded to flames at a home located 2237 Strasbourg Court in Orlando at 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
The deputies realized people were inside the burning home, ran in and pulled Donna Graybeal from the house, Local 6 reported.
The officers were forced to use pepper spray to move pass the family's attacking dogs.
The woman's husband, Eddie Graybeal, 58, who suffers from Alzheimer's, died in the fire.
"Unfortunately, by the time the rescue crew got into the scene, the patient had already expired," Orange County sheriff's Deputy Marianne Nuckles said.
Neighbors suspect Eddie Graybeal was apparently smoking in bed and possibly sparked the fire.
The state fire marshal is investigating the blaze.
