NEW YORK - "Any way you slice it, there's only one NYPD - and it's not on a menu."
That's what Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne says about the New York Police Department's recent settlement of a trademark dispute with a Florida-based pizzeria chain.
Under the agreement, N.Y.P.D. Pizza _ which stands for New York Pizzeria Delicatessen _ must redesign its logo so it doesn't resemble a uniform patch. It can keep its name as long as it posts disclaimers, but it cannot open any restaurants in the New York tristate area.
The chain, which operates in nine states, has decor that resembles a police station.
Its founder, Queens native Paul Russo, says the legal struggle "was a bit wearisome," but he's "very pleased" that a settlement was reached.
