Fires Started Overnight, Police Say

PLYMOUTH, Conn. -- Police have arrested a volunteer firefighter in connection to a pair of fires that occurred in Plymouth Friday night.

The first fire was reported as a truck fire on South Street around 7:40 p.m., police said. The second fire was reported at a barn on Hillside Avenue.

The Terryville Fire Department was dispatched in both cases.

Upon investigation, Brett Fennessy, 22, was arrested on charges of second-dgree arson, second-degree criminal trespass, first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of giving a false statement and falsely reporting an incident.
Fennessy was held on a $250,000 bond for arraignmnet on Sept. 26 at the Bristol Superior Court. As a result, there will be ongoing investigations by the Plymouth Police Department, Terryville Fire Marshals Office, and the State Fire Marshals Office into past arsons in Plymouth with the possibility of more arrests to follow.

Since late last winter, Plymouth police said they've been dealing with a series of arsons in town involving trucks, campers, garages, and barns. They said it got to the point that town leaders even set up a task force to track the arsonist down.
