By Paul Leighton
Staff writer

BEVERLY - Five days after performing a real-life rescue, firefighters will demonstrate some of their other skills at their annual open house tomorrow.
The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at fire headquarters at 15 Hale St. It is free and open to the public.
The day will include Jaws of Life demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and rope rescue demonstrations at 12:15 and 2 p.m. Jaws of Life is a tool used to extricate people from severely damaged vehicles after crashes.
On Monday, firefighters saved a man on the roof of the United Methodist Church, with Capt. Peter O'Connor grabbing the man by the belt as he appeared ready to jump.
The open house will also include free pizza from Three Star Pizza, free hot dogs from Deputy's Doggs and free soda from Super Sub.
The public can learn about fire safety, child passenger safety, and carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
Children will be allowed to sit in firetrucks, the dive rescue truck and an ambulance. Montserrat College of Art students will provide face-painting.
