SAN ANTONIO --
A federal prison escapee who had been on the run for nearly seven months was captured in downtown San Antonio on Saturday.
Adam Villarreal was apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force after he was seen leaving a bar at South St. Mary's Street and Durango Boulevard, Deputy U.S. Marshal Bobby J. Hogeland Jr. said in a press release.
Law enforcement authorities attempted to stop Villarreal when he sped out of a parking lot and led them on a vehicle chase, Hogeland said.
After jumping several curbs and running several red lights, Villarreal lost control of his vehicle and crashed, Hogeland said. Villarreal then exited the vehicle and led law enforcement authorities on a short foot chase until he was caught and arrested.
Villarreal was serving a 13-year prison sentence on a conviction of possession with intent to distribute in excess of 5 kilograms of cocaine when he escaped from the Bureau of Prisons, FCI Three Rivers on Jan. 27.
