SCITUATE, R.I. -- A Cranston man falsely claimed his daughter was suffering from leukemia and accepted about $20,000 in donations for her treatment, state police said Thursday.
Jordan Bruno, 35, was arrested and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.
According to state police, in the past year, Bruno told numerous people that his 8-year-old daughter was suffering from leukemia. During that time, he collected cash and check donations intended to offset the costs of her care.
Bruno was arraigned at the state police's Lincoln Woods barracks on Wednesday and released on $20,000 personal recognizance.
