PLYMOUTH -
State Police attached to the state fire marshal's office were packing up chemicals and fireworks until 4 a.m. today at a Plymouth home where just three months ago they confiscated a truckload of fireworks.
State Police showed up at 215 Sandy Beach Road, the home of Robert Rinaldi, with a search warrant Wednesday night, said Jennifer Meith, spokeswoman for Fire Marshal Stephen Coan. They found a large amount of fireworks and the powders and chemicals used to make fireworks, Mieth said.
On April 7, the State Police fire and explosion investigation unit confiscated homemade fireworks, black powder, chemicals and six improvised explosive devices at Rinaldi's home. Rinaldi, 57, said the devices and materials were not dangerous and that he makes fireworks to enter in competitions, as a hobby.
After the April raid, he was charged with six counts of possession of an infernal machine and one count of possession of explosives.
Rinaldi had been charged with fireworks violations once before. He was put on probation for two years after authorities raided his home in 1990.
Rinaldi was severely burned on New Year's Day 1991 when a kerosene stove started a fire in a trailer where fireworks were stored. The fire triggered an explosion that damaged houses in the neighborhood.
