Any chance these folks will EVER be armed ??
I thought they were, but a group photo proved otherwise.

I listen to them on the scanner occasionally, seems like security-type duties for the most part; locking & unlocking doors, making sure the dorm security people are awake, etc.

I will add this...The job and benefits we have here are pretty dam good - compared to others. Will we ever be armed, who knows, there has been talk, but it's my understanding there is chatter regarding POST mandating all unarmed departments becoming armed. (Is it true?) - Will the school be forced to accept any potential mandate? Our hope would be - yes! Like all college departments there is a degree of unlocks, but if I was to put a % on how often we do it - I would put it at a legit 15%. The area we are located has some things that happen from time to time - But if you've been in this game long enough less will always be more - Trust me! If there is interest seriously check us out - We have wicked awesome cruisers LOL - Be safe out there everyone!!!

POST requires every POST-certified officer to be firearms-qualified, there's no mandate to arm departments that are currently unarmed. As clueless as the politicians in Massachusetts are, I think they realize that some departments will never be armed (DMH/DPH/DMR), so if they mandate all officers to be armed, those departments (not saying Emerson is one of them) will just surrender their POST certification/arrest powers.

Something similar has already happened with the Boston Public Health Commission Police, they lost their Boston Special Officer status because none of their people were or qualified for full-time POST status, so they're out there in cruisers, badges, and patches that say "POLICE" with neither guns nor arrest powers (crazy if you ask me).
