Greetings all,

My department is going to enter one of its cruisers into an upcoming car show to be held on August 14th & 15th, 2004 in Springfield, Mass. Part of the show (the part we'll be in) is dedicated to emergency vehicles, police/fire/EMS both active and retired.

To read about this show called the Whelen Emergency 911 Show 2004 at the 20th annual Tune by Tuna Car Show, click this link: http://www.tunebytuna.com/htm/whelen2002.htm

My questions for the group are these:
- Have you and/or your department ever shown a 'work vehicle' at one of these shows?
- What did you do to get ready for the event?
- What did you do to/for the vehicle to get it ready for the event?
- How long did you work on your vehicle to have it look it's best?
- How nit-picky are the judges?
- Would you share some tips on how to make a 'work vehicle' look as best it can?
- Did you have any displays to go along with your vehicle?
- How did you enjoy the event?

Please feel free to add any comments and/or suggestions that I may not have asked that might prove helpful.

If you have/do show cars, I would really enjoy hearing a story or two about your experiences.

Thanks in advance for your responses and stories.

Thanks for the tips and shared advice.

Last year I showed my 10-years-in-service 'company car', a 1995 Crown Vic, it lost out to a 2004 Chevy Impala that rolled right of the showroom floor and into the car show. The judges gave the award to that cruiser, but I was advised that my cruiser was a crowd favorite for the campus police class. Now if the crowd only gave out trophies…

This year, I’m entering our newest cruiser into the show. It’s a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT. While its decaled, there won’t be enough time to get the lights, siren and equipment mounted in time for the show. Still, it’s a worthwhile event that raises money for the Shriners Hospital.

Work safe.
