CLOVIS, N.M. - Authorities say eight inmates, including a convicted murderer and another man charged with murder, have escaped from a county jail in eastern New Mexico.
One of the men was captured by Clovis police, but the other seven remain at large.
It's not immediately clear how the men escaped, and no one at the Curry County Sheriff's Department was available to comment early Monday. The department says in a statement that the men were discovered missing at 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
One of the missing inmates is Edward Salas, who is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a 10-year-old boy. Shots were fired through the child's bedroom window as he slept.
Another escapee, Larry McClendon, is charged with murder and aggravated robbery in the death of a secondhand store owner.
