Ecuadorian votes sent to Polish herb farm

A puzzled Polish herb company received a box of votes from an Ecuadorian
national referendum, thanks to a mix up by couriers.

The completed postal ballot papers - filled in by ex-pat Ecuadorians living
in Spain - were meant to decide the future powers of the country's
president Rafael Correa.

But instead of being sent to the South American state, DHL delivered the
votes 7,000 miles away to herb farm Prymat, in Jastrzebie-Zdro, south
west Poland.

"We quite often get herb samples from Spain, and so we weren't surprised
to get the package - until we opened it," said Prymat spokesman

DHL in Spain would not comment on the botch-up.

The ballots have since been delivered to the Ecuador embassy in Warsaw
and readdressed to the Ecuador election tribunal.
