Police Chief Thomas F. Kominsky has announced the promotions of Michael Fox and James McAvoy from patrolman to sergeant.
Both are now assigned as supervisors on the midnight-to-8 a.m. shift. The appointments were effective July 14.
Fox has been with the Easton police force since 1980 and was one of the first DARE officers in Massachusetts. He has been a detective for 14 years.
McAvoy joined the Easton police force in 2000 from Whitman, where he was the DARE officer. Last year, he was assigned as the school resource officer at Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School.
A new resource officer will be assigned before the start of the school year, Kominsky said.
The promotions raise the base pay of both Fox and McAvoy by 18 percent, from $56,040 earned by patrolmen to the $66,128 paid sergeants.
One sergeant's position was available because of the dismissal of former Sgt. Robert P. Grinham. The other position was added because of a shortage of supervisors in the department.
